Cellport System presents white paper on CP-Connect at Convergence Automotive Technology Conference.

CEO Pat Kennedy introduces CP-Connect’s link normalization and service advertising framework, initially targeted for Telematics

October 15, 2004/Boulder, CO; Cellport Systems the leading research and licensing organization in the global Telematics market will present a white paper on its latest software connectivity innovation, CP-Connect, at the Convergence Auto Technology Conference in Detroit on October 19th. The development of CP-Connect was motivated by the bourgeoning capabilities of mobile wireless devices, such as MP-3, Navigation and PIM (Personal Information Management) applications. “Today’s Telematics market is hampered by incompatibilities at several strata’s”, said Chuck Spaur Cellport’s VP of Architectures, “CP-Connect’s has been designed to normalize communications over disparate links as well as provide a service discovery and application networking framework”

The CP-Connect middleware creates new networking and application sharing scenarios between wireless mobile devices and automotive systems. Today’s vehicles have become more capable incorporating resources such as color monitors, surround sound audio, GPS, voice recognition and steering wheel controls.

“Networking powerful wireless handset applications with vehicle resources will enable endless new application possibilities”, said Pat Kennedy Cellport’s CEO. CP-Connect enables portable wireless devices with MP-3 music to interface with vehicle resources such as quality audio systems, a dashboard color monitor for viewing the mobile devices music play list, as well as steering wheel controls for selecting songs. Another compelling networked application is to connect the mobile device’s real time navigation capabilities with vehicle side GPS along with large color in dash display and audio system, for an enriched and safer navigation experience. CP-Connect will enable vehicle owners to download music tones for customized door ajar alerts, as well as unique visual and skins for the vehicle dashboard display(s).

Cellport plans to announce a series of demonstration projects in the 4th quarter of 2004. The initial projects will utilize Qualcomm’s BREW technology on both CDMA and GSM mobile devices. The commercial launch of CP-Connect is scheduled for the 1st quarter of 2005
